Assam
There are only a few eye-catching creatures in this world which are as charismatic as the Brahmaputra River Dolphins or the South Asian River Dolphins. ‘Susu’ or ‘Hihu’, as they are known in the Indian Subcontinent, have for long been the major tourist drawers in the Ganga and the Brahmaputra. These virtually blind dolphins are extremely friendly and harmless that love the attention of the tourists and typically swirls and glides through the waters. However, their numbers have dwindled over the years and now stands at just over 2000. About 300 of them can be found in the playful waters of Brahmaputra. These stats are alarming but people have continued to try their luck to at least get a glimpse of them in the mighty Brahmaputra. Dibru Saikhowa, Kolia Bhomora Setu, and the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary are some of the major spots in Assam where there is the most probability of sighting a ‘Susu’.
